Monday, October 20th — Honey

October 20, 2008

Today I Learned…

…that honey has been proven to help heal small burns.

In a collection of data from almost 20 medical trials involving over 2,500 patients, direct application of honey to a mild or moderate burn produced faster healing than a standard dressing of gauze and film.  It is currently unknown how this works exactly, but it appears to help the body remove dead tissue and prevent/fight infection.

However, as the Daily Express article linked to above stipulates, researchers have been unable to find evidence that honey helps the healing process with grazes, scrapes, lacerations, and other wounds.

Apparently, England will be out of honey by Christmas. Did you hear about how the world’s bee population is being ravaged? We might not have bees in a couple of years.
