Today I Learned…

…two related things.  First, I’m prescient.  During the 2008 NFL Draft, I lamented that my beloved Washington Redskins did not draft a pass-rushing defensive end.  The pass rush has been a weakness of the team for a few years now, and Philip Daniels (the team’s current best pass rusher) was 35 and beginning to wear down.  I thought they missed a big opportunity to strengthen a weak position there.  When Daniels went down earlier today with a torn ACL that will keep him sidelined for the entire season, I was feeling pretty smart, if pessimistic about the team’s chances.

I also learned today that a second and sixth round picks are all it takes to get a possible Hall-of-Famer from a team that doesn’t want him.  The ‘Skins acquired Jason Taylor (of Dancing with the Stars fame) from the Miami Dolphins today for those picks in 2009 and 2010 respectively, not nine hours after Daniels’ injury.  Considering that Washington was dangling two first round picks for Cincinnati’s Chad Johnson before the draft, I think this was a pretty fair price to pay.
